MATH
Below is a list of different math topics that are covered throughout the year. We are using a new math program,
Bridges. The program integrates these different topics throughout the year (so one unit is not necessarily covered at one time).
1. Counting and Cardinality
- Know number names and the count sequence
- Count to tell the number of objects
- Compare numbers
2. Operations and Algebraic Thinking
- Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from
- Know all the number pairs for numbers up to 5
3. Number and Operations in Base Ten
- Work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations for place value
4. Geometry
- Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, and spheres)
- Analyze, compare, created, and compose shapes
5. Measurement and Data
- Describe and compare measurable attributes
- Classify objects and count the number of objects in each category
Workplaces
--Students work in groups with manipulatives or playing math games. This is part of their daily math lesson.
Number Corner
--During this daily lesson, students learn about calendar skills, patterns, counting, number fluency, and many other math skills. We use the calendar, a counting collection, days of school, and a number line to focus on different math skills.
